Canteen
There is a canteen in the ground floor of the IBMS Block providing hygienic & tasty food.
College library
The college library has all the required text books and reference books required for the MBBS course. Online resources, CD-ROMs and DVDs are also available in the college library. Over 3000 textbooks, reference books and other categories of books are available in the college library. The college subscribes to a number of national and international journals and online access to over 3000 journals is available through online databases.
Community-based learning
The college actively encourages and supports community-based learning (CBL). CBL is being actively promoted through community visits, postings to peripheral health institutions, long stays in rural communities and family visits. The institution actively promotes the development of a community orientation among the graduating doctors. The college plans to start satellite or outreach clinics to improve healthcare delivery in the periphery and for training of medical, nursing and other categories of students. A satellite hospital is functioning in Dolakha district. The college has worked out a medical insurance scheme, Sanjeevani for the residents of Imadol VDC and neighboring VDCs. The residents can avail of basic medical facilities in the hospital on payment of a nominal premium each year.
The OPD and Administrative Block
The ground floor has the various out patient departments (OPDs) and also houses the patient waiting area. The first floor houses the Pediatrics ward with the NICU, PICU and the Blood Bank. The third floor has the student classrooms. There are four classrooms – two small ones which can accommodate 50 students and two large ones which can accommodate over 100 students. The classrooms are equipped with modern audiovisual aids like overhead projector, LCD projector, slide projector, laptops and television monitors. This block also houses the administrative offices of the institution on the second floor and the hospital pharmacy on the ground floor.
Faculty
Different categories of faculties has been appointed from reputed institutions in Nepal and abroad according to the norms of the Nepal Medical Council and Tribhuvan University.
Physical infrastructure
At present, the college and the teaching hospital are functioning from three main buildings. These are the Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) block, the Teaching Hospital block and the OPD and Administrative block.
The Integrated Basic Medical Sciences block
This block houses the various Basic Medical Science departments and laboratories. The various labs housed in this block are the Histology lab, Biochemistry lab, Physiology lab, Community Medicine lab, Pathology lab, Microbiology lab and Pharmacology lab.
Each of these labs has a surface area of approximately 55 m2 and can accommodate 25 students. The dissection hall has a surface area of around 110 m2 and can accommodate 100 students at a time
The Teaching Hospital block
The ground floor has the emergency wing and various diagnostic and laboratory facilities. The emergency is equipped with all modern facilities and has eight beds in the emergency ward and eleven beds for observation. The CSSD and the laundry are also on the ground floor.
The college has adequate number of beds in various departments according to the requirements of the Tribhuvan University and the Nepal Medical Council. The first floor houses the Medicine and Surgery ward; the second floor has the Orthopedics and Gynecology wards and the Dental OPD; the third floor has the Major Operation Theater, the Preoperative and Postoperative wards and the ICU and CCU. The top floor houses the Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Otorhinolaryngology wards. The college auditorium with a seating capacity for 200 persons is also situated in the top floor. To ensure easy access to stretcher trolleys and wheelchairs, a sloping ramp connects all the wards of the hospital. Diagnostic facilities like digital X-rays, ultrasound (color and black and white), obstetric ultrasound, dental X-rays, cytopathology services, histopathology services are at present available in the Teaching Hospital. Various hematological, biochemical and microbiological investigations are also available. Solid waste from the hospital is segregated at source into hazardous, sharp and general waste. The above waste is treated as per the norms laid down by the Government of Nepal and disposed. |
