Clinical Laboratory Services

The clinical laboratory services of KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital uses state-of-the-art technology and equipment to produce accuracy, precision, reproducibility and fast  laboratory results. Our team, which includes renowned Pathologists, Biochemists, Microbiologists, and Laboratory professionals, offers the best laboratory services. The Department of Clinical Laboratory provides round the clock service i.e. 24 hrs a day, 365 days in a year, to the patients.

Units/ Services :

 

• Clinical Microbiology: All routine and special culture and antibiotic sensitivity tests including Blood cultures on automated identification machine available. Microbiology encompasses numerous sub-disciplines including virology, parasitology, mycology and bacteriology.

• Clinical Biochemistry: Routine biochemistry tests and special tests like anemia profile, hormone assays, infertility markers, inflammatory markers  and drug assays, tumor markers available.

• Hematology: Routine hematology tests, bone marrow studies and Coagulation studies available.

• Immunohematology: Accurate cancer diagnosis by Immunohistochemistry available.

• Histopathology: All histopathology processing and reporting available. 

• Cytopathology: Routine and guided FNAC facilities for processing and reporting available.

• Immunology and Serology: Serological tests for all infectious diseases including Hepatitis markers, TORCH test, HIV, HCV, typhoid , autoimmune panels, Total IgE, markers for critical care assessment to name a few are done on automated CLIA systems.

• Clinical Pathology: Analysis of urine, semen and other body fluid samples.

• Molecular biology: The lab has facilities for molecular biology tests like the PCR, Human papilloma virus, and viral loads.

• Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank: The Blood Bank is a modern state of art facility offering Blood and Blood Components, as well as a comprehensive range of blood bank-related testing. Our Blood Bank provides 24x7 services and 100% voluntary blood collection and testing facilities that follows a proper system to ensure good quality of blood. We provide the following facilities:

Tests: Phenotyping (Rh, Kell, Jka, Jkb, Fya, Fyb, S, s, k), Antibody  identification (Primary Panel, D Pos Panel, D Neg Panel), Antibody screening (2 cells, 3 cells, pool-cell), ABO/Rh D typing, Weak D, Blood type check (donor), CMV, IgG DAT, Crossmatch (IgG class antibodies)

Blood and Blood Components: Whole Blood, Packed Red Cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma, Platelet Concentrate, Cryoprecipitate etc.

QUALITY ASSURANCE :

The skilled and dedicated teams of consultants, medical technologists, administrators, quality assurance team, and supporting staff of KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital Laboratory are highly trained to use cutting-edge technology and effective automation. 
The Quality Assurance Unit at Clinical Laboratory oversees the overall quality standard set by the accreditation agencies. Quality Assurance (QA) monitoring is carried out at all three levels, namely pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. In order to support affordable, evidence-based treatment, the department works to produce precise, high-quality reports. To ensure the quality of reports, the clinical laboratory department regularly participates in the EQAS program conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL, Nepal Government). Clinical Laboratory departments conduct third-party quality control sera on a daily basis to ensure the quality of reports.
